What's That Noise?

Hearing an unfamiliar sound while driving?

That can be disconcerting, especially when you have no idea what's causing it.

Help! Identify My Noise

The following is a list of common noises your vehicle makes when something's not running quite right.

  • Engine Knocks: Your engine is sensitive to the type of fuel it runs. Using a lower grade gasoline than what your owner's manual lists can cause a knocking sound from the engine.
  • Loud Bang from the Back: There are several causes for loud bangs, depending on their frequency and whether they're accompanied by other problems. You might be experiencing backfire from a rich fuel-air ratio.
  • Knocks from Underneath: A knock from under your vehicle could be caused by worn suspension parts. You may need a replacement ball joint, shock absorber, or other suspension part.
  • Squealing when Braking: Squealing can be the result of a number of causes, including surface rust on the rotors after a rain or snow storm, or an indicator that it's time to replace the brake pads. If the squealing is persistent, or you notice a decrease in your stopping power, you'll want to have your brakes checked.
  • Phone Tapping: That's you, sitting in the driver's seat while parked, giving us a call to schedule your diagnostic and repair service. Our team will confirm the cause and provide the proper fix to get you going again.

Clunks, bangs, knocks, rumblings, and roars all indicate something's going on with your vehicle that wasn't before. The only way you can fix it, and prevent it from causing damage to other parts, it to find out what's wrong for sure with a diagnostic. The team at Morrison Autoworks, Inc. is ready to help you find out what's wrong with your vehicle and discuss the necessary repairs with you.
